Why Reading by the End of Third Grade Matters

74% of students who do not read on grade level by the end of the third grade will not catch up in time to graduate with their class. The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading encourages everyone to support the effort to get all kids reading on grade level by this critical milestone.

Reading for All is a partnership between The Oregon Community Foundation and the Marion, Polk and Yamhill county Children and Families Commissions. The mission of these agencies complements the Foundation's commitment to early childhood development and strengthening Oregon families. Together, we are mobilizing to increase literacy in the Northern Willamette Valley.

Because 90% of brain development happens by age 5, making reading a priority in early childhood yields the greatest return on investment.
